Sun Says Java-run Mobiles to Drive Growth

Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz says that consumer cell phones on the Java software platform will drive demand for Sun servers in developing countries. "There is a power shift that has occurred. The marketplace is going to be defined by the consuming public as much as by the traditional IT decision-maker," Schwartz said.

Sun developed Java, a software that is now used in most phones worldwide than anyother software. In fact Java has seen a resurgence of sort of late. According to Sun about 1.2 billion mobile phones use Java to enable online services such as banking, gaming, instant messaging and video streaming. A Reuters report says Sun considers India, China, Brazil and Russia as the key market for Java enabled phones. These four countries are the fastest growing mobile markets today.
